- Index Notation
- While not strictly necessary for a junior-level EM course, learning the tricks of index notation can be incredibly advantageous in dealing with the machinery of vector calculus. Starting this process early helps plant the seed of mathematical maturity that is required for later courses which drop far more advanced index gymnastics from the sky. This set of notes aims to provide some basic examples of how index notation is used and where it may be useful.
- Quantum Optics
- This course is effectively a giant crescendo which ends on a cliffhanger once the origin of light and radiation has been presented. We know photons exist, yet the theory developed over the semester is not yet consistent with a corpuscular theory of light. By quantizing the electromagnetic field using field theoretic techniques, this writeup is meant as a little teaser of quantum optics following the classical theory developed in this course.
